Bees kept in apiary colonies are not wild, endangered, indigenous bees, but European honeybees; domesticated farm animals that are raised for honey and to pollinate crops. The keepers of honeybees on the East End of Long Island are gardeners, farmers, educators, nature lovers, conservationists and entrepreneurs.
