We look forward to new and limited-edition seasonal flavors out of Levain Bakery almost as much as the requisite celebrations and calendar flips they tend to follow — the first day of spring, Passover and Easter hot on its bunny-hopping heels are no exception.
This week, the 30 year old beloved bakery, home of the 6-ounce cookie, released two flavors in time for this week’s vernal equinox: the brand-new Carrot Cake Cookie and the irresistible annual favorite Lemon Cookie, another harbinger of springtime smiles.
The Carrot Cake Cookie came from the notion of taking a breakfast-friendly flavor and turning it into just the right fruity, veggie, spicy treat any time of day. Chock-a-block with classic carrot cake ingredients, along with apricots, white chocolate chips and fresh pecans.
“We had been experimenting with a breakfast-forward cookie for a while, and ended up with carrot cake — and this is when everything finally clicked,” said Levain co-founders Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald in a statement to the press. “It’s a classic for a reason: the kind of flavor people genuinely love. When it came together, it felt like the perfect way to welcome spring. It’s also our first vegetable-forward cookie, and one we really enjoy.” –
In addition to the Carrot Cake Cookie, yesterday Levain also released their luxurious Lemon Cookie, a dense, citrusy treat packed with lemon chips.
The duo launched Monday, Mar. 16 and will be available in the Wainscott store (354 Montauk Highway, Wainscott, 631-604-4123) through June, either as stand-alone flavors or in their Spring Garden Party Assortment, which combines the Carrot Cake and Lemon with a classic Oatmeal Raisin as well as decadent Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chip in the mix, available in 4-, 6-, or 8-packs (at $32, $52 and $82).
The launch of the cookies dovetails nicely into Mother’s Day, too; to honor that annual holiday for all the awesome moms out there, Levain is offering a special limited edition flower-power Mother’s Day Cookie Tin, available from Apr. 20 to May 11 for an extra $17 (or, filled with a customizable 8-pack of those delicious treats for $69).
