Do you have a pint-sized artist in the making on your hands this summer? You’re in luck if you’re in the Southampton area. ColorPop Workshop, the Manhattan-based children’s art studio, is opening a year-round outpost on Jobs Lane, kicking off this July 4 holiday weekend.

The new kids art studio will host a kick-off event on Saturday, July 5 at 10:30 a.m., where Southampton Mayor Bill Manger and town trustee and Stevenson’s Toys owner Roy Stevenson will be on hand to help cut the ribbon on the new venture.

Taking over the space occupied for 60 years by the Southampton Vacuum and Sewing Center, ColorPop is adding to bit of a small-business renaissance on Jobs Lane — and ever-more reasons to bring the kids. ColorPop joins a healthy posey of pint-sized focuses businesses and art hubs on the historic street, including the Southampton Arts Center, Stevenson’s Toys, Bean to Tween clothing store and the Topiaries Flower Shop’s old-fashioned, irresistible Candy Shop with its fists-full of penny candy and other treats.

“It’s very exciting to see new businesses coming in and taking over spots that have been here for many years,” says Stevenson. “I hope they’ll be here many years. I’m extremely thrilled to have another child-centric activity to bring young kids down to Jobs. We’ve got a nice nexus of child palaces to go and shop down here!”

ColorPop is the brainchild of co-founder Tiffany Rafii, CEO of the creative marketing company UpSpring, who opened the first ColorPop kids art studio on the Upper East Side with a focus on teaching and engaging little ones ages 2 to 12 in a multitude of fun, hands-on artistic mediums, from clay work, watercolor painting and printing, to learning about world-famous painters throughout history, sculpture and using favorite fairy tales to inspire illustrations. They also do art-centric birthday parties, open studio days, and summer camp, too, all guided by experienced artists.

The Southampton brick-and-mortar underwent an open-layout revamp to make plenty of space to let kids creative juices flow, overseen by Westchester-based holistic interior design firm Gala Magriñá Design, who used bold primary colors and geometric forms to create an energetic, fun vibe in the space.

“ColorPop was born out of a need for our own kids to have a place where they could create freely, but also develop their art skills and confidence,” says Rafii in a statement to the press. “The support for our little Upper East Side workshop has been so overwhelming that opening in Southampton felt like a natural next step. We’re excited to be part of the local community and bring families together through art.”

ColorPop Workshop is located at 67 Jobs Lane, Southampton. Check the website for classes and to schedule a spot for your mini Matisse.
