This residence is one of a few that are now coming to market as part of the Canoe Place Boathouse Inn and Cottages project built on the one-time spot of “Ye Olde” Canoe Place Inn, established in the 1600s and said to be the nation’s oldest inn. The new development across the Shinnecock Canal features 37 townhouse residences that leverage both access to the water and the hospitality center, which consists of 20 rooms and five cottages. There, amenities include dining operated by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Events, a fitness center and spa services, ballroom and numerous outdoor amenities ranging from beach set ups to a swimming pool and spa/hot tub to access to private water transport.

The original inn hosted dignitaries back in the day and cousins Mitchell and Gregg Rechler of Rechler Equity Partners kept that hospitality history in mind when developing the site with Brooklyn-based design firm Workstead, focusing on modern luxuries and a “lock and leave” lifestyle.
“They really tried to pay homage to the history of the structure, while updating it with luxury amenities,” says Lori Schiaffino, the Compass agent who represents the listing. “This is one of only two hotel residences in the Hamptons, and this [project] is a true hotel residence where you can have room service, shuttle and daily housekeeping.”
She added, “With this level of service, it’s a true hassle free way to own in the Hamptons.” This is the first residence on offer and Schiaffino says three more are in the near-future pipeline, varying in size and bedrooms.
What’s the plan?
The Rechler team worked with interior designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz to create a residence on three floors, with views to the canal.
The first-floor features an entry foyer, eat-in kitchen with a built-in dining bench, and a living room with a gas-powered fireplace and French doors leading to a covered porch overlooking the canal. Upstairs, the second floor offers the primary bedroom with a private balcony and en-suite bathroom, along with a second bedroom and full bathroom. The third floor includes an additional bedroom, bathroom and another balcony. There are white oak floors throughout.

What’s cooking?
The large eat-in kitchen is equipped with Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, quartz countertops and features a center island with a sink, storage and seating, as well as another dining banquette.
What else?
The residences are fully furnished, including linens, kitchenware and tabletop settings.

One cool thing (or two)
Residents can avail themselves of the relationship Canoe Place established with Yacht Hampton, and book private boat transport from the floating dock on site. “Nothing that I can think of like this exists, and where you can get picked up by a boat and get whisked away to some fabulous place on the water,” says Schiaffino.
Agent’s callout
“This is a unique offering with classic Hamptons beach style and a very high luxury standard,” says Schiaffino. “You can really just walk in with a suitcase.”
Location, location, location
“This area is 90 minutes from New York City and has become highly desirable because of that proximity. I’m calling it the “New Hamptons,” Schiaffino says. The residences are 2.2 miles from Hampton Bays. Nearby are Meschutt Beach, the dog-friendly Squiretown Park and Sebonac Beach.
