This riff on the famed (and oh-so easy to make) Moscow Mule is one to check out. While vodka is the norm, dare we say this version is an improvement on the classic. Cognac (or brandy in general) offers more fruit-forward notes in the spirit, which combine gorgeously with the bite of ginger beer and zing of fresh lime juice. Remy Martin V.S.O.P. is, yippie, pretty easy to find, too, and for sure they stock it at Hamptons Wine Shoppe and Park Place Wines.
Why the copper mug? Do you need it? Well, no. You do not. A tall glass works just fine for any highball-like drink that combines spirit and soda. However, what it does do is an excellent job of conducting heat or cold very well — and, in the case of cooking or distilling, copper pots also are known to pull not-great-smelling or tasting things from their contents, notably sulfur.
But you don’t have to worry about foul forays with this sipper. With just three delicious ingredients, you’re set no matter what vessel you choose.
