Legal cannabis options have blossomed like daffodils all over the East End of Long Island — but for brothers Matthew and Ben Goldberg, taking it slow and getting it right was as important to their brand as the quality of product they sell.

“We really worked to add that extra layer of a full approval process,” says Matthew, who began working on the long course of gaining all the necessary layered approvals to open three years ago. The grand opening for The Hamptons Collective (257 County Road 39A, Southampton, 631-800-7275) was last Friday, April 17. “The Hamptons Collective stands out as one of the very first dispensaries to open in the Hamptons, and notably one of only two to receive full Town approval.” They’ve also joined the local Chamber of Commerce, fully digging into the local business culture and indicating that the brothers wish to be ingrained in the local community, where they’ve spent summers since they were children.

Now that all the red tape is behind them, they can get to the work of defining their THC brand (in case you didn’t catch the business’s clever acronym).

Instead of glass cases of point-and-pick products, the Goldberg brothers are bringing a very bespoke boutique vibe to their new shop, which opened right under the wire for that weedy day of note, April 20 (aka, the unofficial-official cannabis culture holiday). Empty packages of all products are on touchable display for you to pick up and examine, and THC and CBD ambassadors are on hand to talk you through each product on offer (or, if you’re not feeling chatty, informational touch screens are available to do your own investigations). Decide on what you want, and they’ll retrieve it from the store room and send you on your way.

The selection is ample: From topicals, tinctures and concentrates to edibles, pre-rolls, flowers, beverages, vaporizers and, of course, fun merch.

“It’s as interactive or non-interactive as you want to be,” says Matthew.

The space, which used to be the Mecox Gardens nursery shop, has been fully renovated with a clean, bright, relaxing feel. Can’t get to the shop? You have the option to order online and either pick it up yourself or they will deliver from Montauk to Quogue, and even Shelter Island. Delivery to the North Fork is on the docket as well.

The Hamptons Collective will be open daily, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. year round. For more information, check their website.
