March most definitely came in like a lion, but honestly, the weather doesn’t really matter a whole heck of a lot when we’ve got all sorts of Hamptons weekend fun ahead.

America’s 250th anniversary rests at the center of the fun, as the Parrish Art Museum gears up for its annual Students Exhibition, featuring over 1,000 young artists participating. The theme this year explores the nation’s founding ideals, which makes sense as it’s happening alongside the inaugural PARRISH USA250 exhibition. Oh, and this student art show is in its 73rd year. We love a community tradition, especially when it’s in it’s seventh decade of existence.

Equally intriguing is the spin class being offered at Shelter Island History Museum, where participants will learn the basics of turning fiber into yarn, just like they did in olden times. Additionally, live jazz music, a St. Patrick’s Day craft for the kids and a “Winter Jam” benefit are also on the docket, with the latter ready to rock Twin Forks Beer Co. in Riverhead, to benefit East End Arts.

Art is at the center of action this weekend, and our East End locales know how to celebrate in style.

Remember what the late great, maybe not-so-stylish writer Charles Bukowski said: “An intellectual is a man who says a simple thing in a difficult way; an artist is a man who says a difficult thing in a simple way.”

We’re keeping it simple this weekend. But, as always, we’re keeping it fun.
