Shark Bar tips a hat to "Jaws" and the Cricket II in this week's cocktail. (Photo courtesy of Shark Bar)

It was the movie that made at least a couple generations of us scared to go back in the water — but in the most film-frightfully wonderful way. And if Montauk’s Shark Bar didn’t pay homage to the 50th anniversary of “Jaws,” well, we just don’t know who oughta.

This Sunday, August 24, from noon to 7 p.m., the Nappeague Stretch spot will be hosting an all-day screening of the classic nature v. man horror flick, with Molly Scheider — daughter of Chief Brody himself, famously portrayed in “Jaws” and its multiple follow-ups by the inimitable actor and Hayground School founding member, the late Roy Scheider — in person to introduce the movie and talk with “Jaws” fans.

There will also be some fun complimentary merch from Amante amaro, a special signature dish from chef Jeremy Blutstein and some signature cocktails, too, like this nod to the boat that battled the storied fish, the Cricket II.

Sure, you can make this at home with the recipe generously loaned from our Montauk friends, but if you go on down there Sunday and get in on the fun, a portion of the proceeds go to help out Scheider’s educational pet project, the Hayground. Maybe best case scenario: Go getcha a Cricket II from the capable bartenders on hand at Shark Bar — and then practice it later at home, far from the prying jaws of ferocious fish.

The Cricket II

Prep Time 1 minute
Serves 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz cucumber vodka (we're fans of Sagaponack Distilling's version!)
  • 1 oz Barrow's Intense ginger liqueur
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz Amante amaro
  • 1 cucumber wheel

Directions

  • In a shaker with ice, combine the vodka, ginger liqueur and lemon juice. Shake until well-chilled, about 10 to 15 seconds.
  • Strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Gently pour the amaro over the back of a teaspoon, creating a nice blood-red layer on top.
  • Garnish with the cucumber. Get out your binoculars to look for sharks and sip.
