Looking for a collectible Giovanni Offredi leather chaise or magnificently modern molded Eames rocker? How about a classic Chanel boucle jacket or perhaps a chic Prada purse in pristine condition? Tisha Collette’s collection of eponymous high-end consignment shops has you covered (at a discount!) for all the stylish home and apparel items you need — and many things you will certainly want.
“When I was in Northern California as a teenager, I noticed there were all these resale shops that were well-curated and nice and clean and not, like, that whole thrifty vibe,” says Collette, who’s been in business for 25 years. “It was definitely a different way of presenting merchandise in an environment where it can be appreciated and give it the value that it deserves. And yeah, I have to say: I was doing this way before the RealReal.”
With shops on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (1327 Madison Ave., New York, 212-970-0555), as well as next-store-neighbor clothing and furniture outposts at Tanger Outlets (200 Tanger Mall Drive, #600, Riverhead, 631-727-7270), her Southampton furniture and clothing shops (10 Main St., Southampton,
631-287-5115; 1 Hampton Road, Southampton, 631-287-5100) and a shop in Bridgehampton (2231 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, 631-204-9500), Collette has singlehandedly taken upcycling in the Hamptons to an upswing. Here are some of her favorite things:
Favorite place to shop It’s funny, I don’t generally shop retail because I have so much at home and in my stores, so my favorite is my own, Collette. But… while I avoid T.J. Maxx (1527 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, 631-537-1591) like the plague, I went there the other day and I’ve been sucked back in four times when I was shopping for my boyfriend. Do I ever go shop at Chanel or Hermès or Louis Vuitton? Hell no! Maybe to Main Street Optics (82 Main St., Southampton, 631-287-7898) or Optyx (10 Main St., East Hampton, 631-324-5441) because I’m a sucker for sunglasses.
Favorite restaurant to take out of towners Léon 1909 (29 W. Neck Road, Shelter Island, 631-749-9123) or Vine Street Café (41 S. Ferry Road, Shelter Island, 631-749-3210), for sure. They’re just cozy and genuine, and the food is good and the people are nice. I also would take them to either Lulu Kitchen & Bar (126 Main St., Sag Harbor, 631-725-0900) or Bell & Anchor (3253 Noyack Road, Sag Harbor, 631-725-3400).
Favorite wine shop? Definitely Bridgehampton Wine Cellar (2102 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, 631-537-1230).They have great deals on Sancerre.
Favorite spot to people watch In Southampton sitting out in front of Sant Ambroeus (30 Main St., Southampton, 631-283-1233).
Favorite beach Peter’s Pond (Peter’s Pond Lane, Sagaponack). It’s just more remote; it’s quieter and not so manicured.
Favorite old-school Hamptons holdout My kids loved to go to John Papas Café (18 Park Place, East Hampton, 631-324-5400). It’s been around forever, the staff is great, the food’s consistent. If I’m hanging out with a friend, Estia’s (1615 Sag Harbor Turnpike, Sag Harbor, 631-725-1045) is amazing and they’ve been around forever. The only problem is you have to wait, so you have to time it and go early or late.
Favorite farm stand Serene Green (3980 Noyack Road, Sag Harbor, 631-808-3203). It’s five minutes from my house and has everything you could want. There’s the little airstream that serves coffee in the summer and they sell Christmas trees and firewood in the winter; they move with the seasons!
Favorite entertainment spot Bay Street Theater (1 Long Wharf, Sag Harbor, 631-725-9500). It’s cozy and local. It’s just a great environment and great people to go see.
Favorite thing about the Hamptons in the spring Putting my boat in the water. It goes into Piccozzi’s Dering Harbor Marina (177 N. Ferry Road, Shelter Island, 631-749-0045) and I can go to Sag Harbor, Orient Point, Southampton, Ram’s Head. That’s spring for me — being out on the water again.
