The daffodils and tulips are popping; the sun is shining (well, you know, sometimes); and Finley’s Fiction (8 Grand Ave., Shelter Island, 203-650-7616) is about to open its doors to usher in its seventh season of excellent reading!

Owner Finley Shaw has been busy all winter with her new Finley’s Book Club subscription, where a hand-picked selection from Shaw arrives in your mailbox monthly and concludes with a Zoom discussion lead by the beloved bookstore owner and even sometimes the authors themselves (prepare yourself for the exciting upcoming tome she has lined up in her last selection below). But now it’s time to get back to the IRL version of the tiny but mighty Island-based shop, chock-a-block with tons of terrific tomes to devour for a multitude of tastes and interests, along with great gifty offerings (some even locally made).

Shaw tells us her doors will be open in time for Easter weekend, Friday, April 19 from noon-3 and then Saturday, April 20 from 10-4. Here’s a pick of page-turning posies to pluck from Finley’s Fiction’s shelves, selected by Shaw herself, right on time for April showers and curling up in favorite chair (or, hey, as hope springs, spread out on a blanket in the sun on Long Beach) …

The Fate of the Day by Rick Atkinson

“This is the second book in the American Revolution trilogy. Rick Atkinson’s book coincides with the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the Revolution and follows the war from Fort Ticonderoga to Charleston from 1777 to 1780.”

I Am Maria: My Reflections and Poems on Heartbreak, Healing and Finding Your Way Home by Maria Shriver

“I loved Shriver’s earlier books (and also bestsellers at Finley’s Fiction).  Perfect Mother’s Day gift!”

Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry

“I love Emily Henry’s books. They are fun and breezy, with happy endings (sometimes just what I need).   Coming out April 22, this book is about two writers competing for the chance to tell a larger-than-life biography of a woman no one has seen in years.”

The Maid’s Secret by Nita Prose

“This is the third in a series of “Molly the Maid.” These fun, Agatha Christie-type mysteries are always page turners.”

Twist by Colum McCann

“This Irish bestselling writer is Finley’s Fiction’s May book club pick. Colum will be leading the discussion in late May (and all copies will be signed). Twist follows an Irish journalist assigned to report on a cable repair ship off the coast of Africa.”
