Next weekend, Shelter Island’s Léon 1909 morphs into Cantina Léon for a three-day special dining experience in honor of the upcoming Halloween and Dia de los Muertos holidays.

The weekend-long menu mashup pays homage to Puebla, east central Mexico’s main culinary hub that’s home to some of the nation’s most iconic dishes and almost always features a combination of Mesoamerican ingredients with Spanish, French and Middle Eastern flavor. Led by chef Armond Joseph, the beloved resto will be trading its usual look for more festive offerings, including traditional mole poblano, adobo chicken, ceviche, queso oaxaqueño, antojitos and tacos al pastor as well as Latin riffs on classic menu items.

“Chef Armond and our kitchen team — many of whom call Puebla, Mexico home — are taking over the menu with dishes inspired by the food they grew up with, the flavors they love and the traditions they bring to Léon every day,” says an Instagram post from the restaurant.

Additionally, Léon’s intrepid bar maven Gillian Georges will be offering up a specialty cocktail menu filled with a bevy of mezcal-heavy beverages along with carefully curated and crafted sippers sure to bring all the spookily festive feels and tastes.

Cantina Léon (49 West Neck Road, Shelter Island, 631-749-9123) will be available on Friday, Oct. 30, Saturday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1. Opens at 5 p.m.
