The lights are dark no more: the Southampton Playhouse (43 Hill St., Southampton) opens tonight in a surprise Valentine to the South Fork.

The newly refurbished and revamped movie house in the Hamptons featuring four separate theaters, one which will screen movies in IMAX, will begin showing films tonight, Thursday, Feb. 13, with more shows throughout the weekend.

The inaugural early weekend showings kick off with a mix of newly released and classic films: “Paddington in Peru,” the documentary “Blue Angels” in IMAX, and “Captain America.”

In addition, the theater’s promised inclusion of classic films will also kick off with “The Spirit of 1932,” honoring films from the year the theater originally opened its doors. This Saturday and Sunday, get ready for Ernst Lubitsch’s action-packed love triangle “Trouble in Paradise,” which will be introduced by introduced by artistic director Eric Kohn.

Shuttered since March of 2020, the Playhouse regrouped as a nonprofit, culling down the original 1,000 seat auditorium to 500 at the landmark Hill Street site. It is owned by billionaire real estate tycoon Aby Rosen, co-founder of RFR Holding, a Manhattan-based real estate investment, development and management company.

Requiring an incredibly extensive renovation, Rosen says they used 1100 Architects along with developer Jay Bialsky to completely reinvent the storied structure’s interiors, while maintaining its historic façade, including the now landmarked marquee.
