For the month of January, Birdies Ale House in Southampton (801 County Road 39, Unit 1, 631-259-3822) is donating one dollar for every pint of beer sold to benefit the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, aka ARF.
The initiative is the brainchild of Birdies owner Emma Beudert, both a dog lover and dog owner, with personal ties to ARF. A dedicated volunteer at the Wainscott based organization, the East Hampton resident adopted her dog Darla from ARF in 2020 and according to Jamie Berger, director of marketing and communications for ARF, always wants to help in any way she can.

For Beurdert, the promotion was a no-brainer. “We have a lot of dogs in our bar on a regular basis,” the East Hampton resident says. “And most of our dogs are adopted.” In addition to their practically daily promotions, every Tuesday Birdies hosts a “Yappy Hour,” a dog-friendly happy hour that features drink specials and encourages patrons to bring their respective pups to socialize.
“When you’re at a bar, you know, you can’t really talk about politics, you can’t really talk about religion, but you can definitely talk about dogs. You kind of have to like dogs to hang out at Birdies,” she says. This isn’t the first time Beudert has helped the beloved animal rescue service, as, according to Berger, the Birdies owner did a similar promotion for ARF back in 2022 as the owner of Fierro’s Pizza in East Hampton, “Pies for Pups.”
“Emma is so community minded and wants to help and give back,” Berger says. “We so appreciate her bringing attention to our organization and helping to raise much needed funds for the animals at the adoption center.”

So far, the campaign has been going well, with Beudert saying the goal is to sell 1,000 pints by the end of the month. “We’re about a quarter of the way there,” she says. “People have been really generous.” The generosity of the golf-themed, casino-style sports book bar to help man’s best friend will go a step further on Sunday, Jan. 19, when Birdies hosts ARF’s mobile adoption van from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering patrons old and new a chance to meet (and hopefully adopt) some of the ARF dogs.
Statistically, about 4.1 million pets are adopted each year nationwide. Since it was founded 50 years ago, ARF has saved over 33,500 cats and dogs. According to a report last month from ARF, 97 percent of the animals who came to the rescue organization were saved. About 57 percent of ARF’s rescues came from East Hampton or surrounding communities. About $5,800 is the average cost to save one cat or dog.
ARF is located at 124 Daniels Hole Road in Wainscott. For more information on how to adopt and/or donate, call 631-537-0400 or email [email protected].
