Give the gift of a page-turner this holiday season.
In this little stocking stuffer on an installment of “Feed Your Read,” Finley Shaw’s Finley’s Fiction (8 Grand Ave., Shelter Island, 203-650-7616) — offers a Santa’s bag of terrific books to pore over for that hard-to-gift relative or friend, or perhaps you.
But this time around, Shaw wasn’t focused on December’s hottest releases, but something more giving. “Instead of doing what I’m reading in December, I thought I would do what books I am gifting everyone,” she says.
Shaw will be open for the holiday season, and then shutters until spring so now’s your chance to visit the petite page-turner of a shop on Grand and Chase avenues.
Here’s what’s on Shaw’s hit list for September …
“For my husband: Silver Snarling Trumpet: The Birth of Grateful Dead by Robert Hunter. My husband is a huge GD fan so I’m thrilled to be gifting him the lost manuscript of Robert Hunter (cofounder and primary lyricist). The book gives us a glimpse of the scene of Palo Alto and how Grateful Dead came to be.”
“For my brother : Why we Love Football by Joe Posnanski. For any football fan! This book captures 100 moments of why we love America’s favorite pastime so much.”
“For my oldest son: Great Bars of New York City by Don Q. Dao, photographs by James and Karla Murray. My oldest recently graduated from college and is living on his own in NYC. He is revisiting all of our own haunts from our twenties and I can’t wait to introduce a few more of our old-time favorite bars!”
“For my mom: Island Dreaming by Amanda Lindroth. Designer Lindroth returns with her new gorgeous coffee table book featuring some of her recent projects in the Bahamas, Palm Beach and Manhattan.”
“For my sister-in-law: Brooklyn Storefronts by Joel Holland. This gorgeous book features illustrations of Brooklyn’s iconic and best-loved spots. His first book, NYC storefronts is a bestseller at Finley’s Fiction. Both books are fun hostess gifts!”
