Artists, writers, architects, performers, designers. Creative people do what they do because they love what they do. And, yes, there’s hope that your work will reach people and touch them; maybe even last a little longer than a mere lifetime. For Diego Binetti, that love is front and center of his chosen path as the designer and purveyor of Love Binetti. And this summer, he’s settling in just a little bit more.

As of June, Binetti opened the doors of his new, dedicated Love Binetti shop at 17 Washington St., Sag Harbor, after several years of doing summer pop-ups in the old whaling village, including a year-round stint at Matriark, as well as winter migrations to Palm Beach. But there was a method to the movement: Binetti was curious to find the right communities for his bold, beautiful, small-production designs. And, it seems, Sag Harbor’s at once artistic leanings and grounded community were a good fit.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Binetti studied fine art and fashion in Miami and Milan in the early ’90s, and that juxtaposition of style and influence followed him throughout his career before finally founding his own collection in 2001. By 2011, he launched the Love Binetti line, and you find traces of his life’s work in his ever-changing, always exciting clothing, from natural tropical color and imagery to Bauhaus art and architecture to flower-power punches reminiscent of Georgia O’Keefe. His designs often employ bold, saturated color, gorgeous textiles and at times, collaborations with fine artists from his native Argentina and elsewhere.

In addition to his own seasonal, tightly curated designs, Binetti is also featuring a carefully chosen cache of items from other designers, such as lingerie by Chiffique, accessories by Dragon Diffusion, Bonastre Paris, Carrie Forbes, Sophique Milano, Linda Farrow, Il Bisonte, Brady, Maria la Rosa, Inoui Editions, Reinhard Plank, Aristide Paris, Exquisite-J Milano, Sensi Studio, Maison Boinet, and Brador, and items for the home by Missoni Home, candles and perfumes Coqui- Coqui, House of Bo, Maison la Bougie, SOH Melbourne and Veronique Gabai.
