Did you know that Sag Harbor has one of the oldest volunteer fire departments in the state?
Well, how would you, when the village’s Firehouse Museum has been closed for the past six years? Lucky for us, the Sag Harbor Partnership — a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the quality of life for the people of Sag Harbor — is looking to help, as they gear up to host a block party at Kidd Squid Brewing Co. this Thursday, July 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Part of their ongoing Celebrating Locals series, the block party is designed as a family-friendly summer gathering, with proceeds will benefit the restoration of the 46 Church St. museum.
“The museum preserves the legacy of Sag Harbor’s volunteer firefighters and the history of one of New York State’s earliest volunteer fire departments” says a press statement from the Sag Harbor Partnership. “This block party is a chance for neighbors, families, and visitors to enjoy a summer evening together, welcome new businesses to our community, and support the restoration of an important piece of Sag Harbor’s history. Restoration efforts will help protect this important landmark and ensure that it opens soon.
During the block party — set for the newly expanded beer garden at Kidd Squid, located at 11 Spring St., a couple of blocks from the museum — attendees can expect local craft beer, food from the village’s newest culinary addition, The Corner, along with wines from Suhru & Lieb Vineyards and Wölffer Estate Vineyard, additional beverages from Sag Harbor Beverage, live music from Silas and Sirena, beanbag toss games on the brewery’s new Pétanque court, a vintage fire truck, and screenings of matches from the World Cup.
Tickets are $75 per person, with kids ages 16 and under admitted for free.
