Sag Harbor’s fitness scene got a multi-faceted addition two summers ago and the stylish space blending performance-driven training with high-quality production is poised to keep things exciting all season at the flagship spot.
Celebrity trainer Walter Savage and Emmy Award-winning director Geno McDermott opened Post House (31 Long Island Ave., Sag Harbor) on June 13, 2024. McDermott, chief creative officer of Blackfin, a Lionsgate company, was inspired to create a community space after days on end of working at home.
“I didn’t feel like I was connecting with the Hamptons because I was on Zooms all day with people in L.A.,” says McDermott.
His friend of over a decade, Savage, whose background is in modeling for brands like Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss and Joseph Abboud, was working as a celebrity trainer at Dogpound NYC at the time, expanding his expertise to include fitness related photography.

McDermott pitched a fitness brand to Savage, who he had trained with for years, and knew Sag Harbor would be a good spot thanks to its year-round population density.
The pair built the chic 5,000-square-foot fitness space in a spot that had sat vacant for 15 years next to the Sag Harbor Post Office — spurring the name Post House, also partially inspired by Savage’s love for posterior workouts.
Clients enter through a retail lobby stocked with clothing and beverages where the owners welcome brand activations, promoting outside products.
McDermott’s production background came into play when launching this facet, creating the space to be visually appealing and having the equipment and skill to film and photograph activations for marketing content.
To the left of the lobby sits the main weight room, where Savage leads House Circuit, the brand’s signature strength class blending power, cardio, mobility, body building, balance and flexibility using weight machines and equipment in a 60-minute session.
Just behind the lobby wall is a group studio, where a range of class formats are taught including sculpt, KKSweat, Pvolve and other high energy, mat-based workout modalities, also welcoming outside fitness companies to put on experiences for Post House clients.

In a connected space with an in-house and exterior entrance, there is a reformer Pilates studio where Forma Pilates, a luxury exercise brand holds a residency using Post House’s reformers.
Plus, there is an outside turf area where workouts move to the open air so clients can get their sweat on while experiencing the beauty of the Sag Harbor Bay.
The very diverse exercise space is conducive to many different types of training for private, group and livestreamed sessions through the Post House website, with classes running daily — the earliest at 6 a.m. and the latest at 5 p.m. all of which are taught by established, thoroughly prepared trainers.
“There’s a high bar for entry [for instructors] because there’s so much competition out here,” says McDermott.
What sets Post House apart from other workout businesses, especially in the luxury fitness space is its no membership model, so clients can purchase drop-in classes or Post House packages, and they are able to experience all of the different modalities offered by the brand versus a one-size-fits-all exercise experience.
“One day you could be here with your girlfriends and want to do a mat class, another day clients could be here with their husband and want to do weight training or you could be more in a Pilates mood and do Pilates,” says McDermott.
Currently, McDermott and Savage are working towards expanding to New York City and Nashville.
