Summer in Montauk is always full of sandy surprises. This quiet little community comes alive as soon as Memorial Day hits, with visitors clamoring for the crashing waves, views of the storied historic Montauk Lighthouse, fresh-from-the-docks seafood and laid-back party scene anchored by great local bands and summer spinning DJs. Two hotels are adding to the seasonal fun: one new, and one existing with splendid summer perks for visitors.

At Marram Montauk (21 Oceanview Terrace) you’ll find a season of collaborations, going beyond the usual seaside experiences. The 96-room boutique hotel opened in 2019, revamping the old Atlantic Terrace Hotel, and they haven’t stopped improving since. This year, creative extras include an Onia takeover of the Beachfront Balcony Suite, where the brand is offering up reasons to pack light with their gifted curated clothing looks for guests who stay in the room, as well as a lending wardrobe — a kind of cool clothing library for the weekend. Montauk General Store will also be on site, offering up their retro tees, hats, totes and sweatshirts (it gets chilly at night on those windy beaches!). There will be candle-painting workshops in a partnership with the brand Hotel Lobby Candle, women-centered surf-and stay experience called She Swells (a portion of the booking fees go to fund the Surfrider Foundation, who are fighting to keep our shores, oceans and air clean), and a summer residency at the take-out Mostrador on-site kitchen with Make Matcha for Matcha Mondays (a little green-tea kick to get you moving can’t hurt).

New to Montauk this summer will be another concept from LDV Hospitality, who held court at Gurney’s for a decade with Scarpetta, and last summer opened LDV at the Maidstone and the Maidstone Manor in East Hampton. This year they are adding Barlume Beach (435 East Lake Drive) to their roster of Hamptons spots, a boutique hotel on Lake Montauk that also offers a marina, beach club, bar, restaurant and lounge. An echo of their Mediterranean-minded restaurant of the same name in Manhattan, the restaurant will have morning to night dining options with a seaside bent, as well as cocktails highlighting seasonal ingredients. On weekends, expect music and other entertainment at 8 p.m. Friday to Sunday, as welll as a 3 p.m. show on Saturdays and Sundays. There will also be chartered boat experiences on offer for guests on Lake Montauk, too.
