Several Times Review Media Group publications were recognized by the New York Press Association at its annual Better Newspaper Contest, with awards announced on April 24.

The NYPA recognizes excellence across categories including news, features, video, photography and advertising, honoring outstanding work among similarly sized publications throughout New York State.

Five Times Review publications — Northforker, SouthforkerRiverhead News-Review, Shelter Island Reporter and The Suffolk Times — submitted entries, with their writers and photographers earning awards in multiple categories. Congratulations to the winners:

Ambrose Clancy, writer and editor for the Shelter Island Reporter, won the prestigious Writer of the Year competition.

Amy Zavatto, Editor-in-Chief of Northforker and Southforker, won first place for her Northforker feature story The Young Man and the Old Mill on the renovation of the historic Mattituck restaurant and inn.  

Amanda Olsen won second place for her news story on the Long Island Oyster Growers Association with For the LIOGA, Oysters Are No Shell Game, which appeared in the Northforker.

The Northforker won second place for Best Magazine Cover for their August issue featuring Jeremy Garretson’s photograph of Riverhead Raceway.

Christine Sampson won third place for Lifestyle, Human Interest or Personality Profile for On Guard: Hamptons lifeguarding is more than just a day at the beach, which ran in the August edition of Southforker.

Angela Colangelo took third place for Online Breaking News for her Riverhead News Review story Birders from near and far go ‘cuckoo’ for rare bird spotted in Riverhead.

Nancy Green won third place for Best Column for her Moving Forward column in the Shelter Island Reporter.
