Find out whodunit in East Hampton

Starting today, it’s the fourth annual Hamptons Whodunit Festival taking over downtown East Hampton for the weekend. While tonight is the kick off cocktail party at the Maidstone Golf Club from 6 to 8 p.m., tomorrow through Sunday is the true meat of the festival, as dozens of mystery and true crime authors will be on hand debuting and discussing their books via panels, talks, book signings, mystery games, guided graveyard tours and much, much more. Make it to meditation in Water Mill

Join in for a guided meditation, teaching and group discussion on how we can transform our life to achieve pure and everlasting happiness at the Kadampa Meditation Center (720C Montauk Highway, Water Mill, 631-316-0171) today beginning at 10:30 a.m. The late Buddhist monk, meditation teacher, scholar, and author Geshe Kelsang Gyatso says, “the real source of happiness is inner peace. If our mind is peaceful, we will be happy all the time, regardless of external conditions, but if it is disturbed or troubled in any way, we will never be happy no matter how good our external conditions may be.” Classes are open to everyone. No need to be a Buddhist, or to have any experience in meditation to participate. $15 for nonmembers.

Catch some karaoke at Murf’s

Sing your little heart out at karaoke at Murf’s Backstreet Tavern (64 Division St., 631-899-3575) in Sag Harbor this Thursday night from at 9 p.m. 1 a.m. Hosted by JBM Karaoke. We’re all about being safe and sound, particularly when it comes to enjoying a grown-up beverage, or two, so if you’re drinking don’t drive. That said, if you’ve never sung karaoke before there’s probably no better place to try it out after you’ve got some liquid courage in you.

Test your word skills

Calling all word lovers! Rogers Memorial Library (91 Coopers Farm Road, 631-283-0774) in Southampton hosts “Word Game Palooza” this Friday, April 17, from 1 to 3 p.m., where adults can flex their vocabulary muscles for an afternoon of Scrabble and equally fun word games. Walk-ins are welcome.

Hear classics from a piano pro

Shelter Island Friends of Music presents acclaimed pianist Llewellyn Sánchez-Werner this Saturday at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church starting at 6 p.m. Attendees can expect to hear works by Debussy, Bach and Shumann, among others. A reception will follow the performance. Admission is free.

Run for a cause

Katy’s Courage, the nonprofit dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer research, hosts its annual 5K is this Saturday, April 18, starting at 8:30 a.m. on Water Street in Sag Harbor. Rain or shine, check in starts at 7 p.m. Pre-registration is $25 or pay $30 day of.

Dance disco at Clubhouse

Shake your booty at The Clubhouse (174 Daniels Hole Road, East Hampton, 631-this Saturday night, starting at 7:30 p.m. with disco tunes of DJ CK Beats. A 21 and older event, featuring a cash bar and bar menu, tickets are $25, with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center based in East Hampton.

File in for a film feast

This Saturday, Quogue Library (90 Quogue St., 631-653-4224) hosts “Film Feast,” where a movie is screened and the price of admission is a potluck dish to serve at least six people, and a non-alcoholic beverage to share. The featured movie is “Almost Famous.” Fun starts at 5:15 p.m. Hit up the library’s website to register.

Welcome a new exhibition at WACH

An opening reception for “Goldi,” the latest exhibition on at the Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons (2418 Main St., Bridgehampton, 631-899-4253) this Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. The beautifully imagined exhibition by Nicole A. Vanasse contains a series of 16 hand-crafted cotton batik panels, revealing a moment of pause, play or rest, inviting viewers to consider what it means to feel at home. Kind of like a deep dive into what may have been running through Goldilocks’ head, but make it art!

Pay tribute to Barbra Streisand at Bay Street

“The Main Event,” a spectacular celebration of the legendary icon Barbra Streisand, features powerhouse vocalist Jill Gioia, plus a full live band, in an electric, timeless performance and gorgeous, glamorous tribute to the one and only Babs. Jackson Pollock, for kids at SAC

Southampton Arts Center (25 Jobs Lane, 631-283-0967) hosts a Jackson Pollock workshop for kids led by artist Karyn Mannix on Saturday, April 18, from 2 to 3 p.m. Participants will explore movement, color and expressive techniques while creating their own one-of-a-kind works. $5 to register.

Hike through Montauk

An out and back hike on the North Neck Trail, one of Montauk’s newest trails is this Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society.  Hikers will go past Tupelo Stone and the enormous North Neck Oak on this lovely route.  Meet at the Culloden Point historic marker, west side of Flamingo Avenue, Montauk, about 400 feet north of Wills Point Road.  (Look for a red fire hydrant.)  For those who are up for it, at the end of the main hike, continue into the Culloden Point Preserve on the west side of Flamingo Avenue for an additional (and optional) two and a half miles or so leading to the bay. Bring snacks, liquids and tick protection. The hike is about 90 minutes.
