This Sunday, when the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots take a little mid-game break and Bad Bunny takes the stage for the halftime show, you’re going to need a some refreshment. Regional loyalties being what they are, we’re rooting for the Patriots over here at Southforker, but we’re also pretty stoked to check out the recent Grammy winner’s performance (in Spanish!).
How do you honor both of these things? A popular drink more often than not made with Puerto Rican rum reimagined with rye from the contiguous 48.
A. Overholt (the A. is for Abe — that is, Abe Overholt who founded the Kentucky-based whiskey producer and refiner of rye in particular) is a straight rye whiskey created to pay homage to rye’s cornerstone state roots via the mash bill of 80% rye, and 20% malted barley, aka their Monongahela Mash, named so for the valley from which that style hails in Pennsylvania.
But more important for our purposes here, we like how the spiciness of the rye adds a curious kick to this classic cocktail — one both patriots and rambunctious rabbits can surely agree on.
