We’re all bracing for Sunday. According to the latest weather forecast (thanks, News 12!), we could see up to 18 damn inches of snow on eastern Long Island this weekend. Yipes! Poor visibility combined with slick and icy roads are going to make this a highly recommended stay-at-home kinda of cozy weekend, so get yourself to the grocery store, stock up on what you need if you haven’t already (and, hey, maybe grab a few extra cans of soup and donate that nice, warm parka you never wear anymore to your local food pantry or shelter — donations aren’t just for the holidays and they sure appreciate the neighborly assistance) and get ready to hunker down.
After all that shoveling you’re going to have to likely do, you’re going to be chilled, friends. And you know what you need? A hot toddy! Mmmm-hmmmm. Some hot liquid and whisky in a mug will warm your bones during this monster storm heading our way. Our Scottish mates over at Aberfeldy provided a lovely recipe for this classic — and no, despite what your mom told you, hot toddies do not involve tea (but hey, if you want to throw a tea bag in, you do you, South Forkers!), just simply spirit, sweet and sour. When we make ours, we also drop in a lemon peel dotted with a few whole cloves because, well, it’s delicious, but the basic components here are thoroughly delicious. Procure some Aberfeldy 12 while you’re out stocking up; several local spirits and wine shops carry it, including Hamptons Wine Shoppe and Bottle Hampton. Or hey, use your favorite whisk(e)y of choice that you have on hand. Sláinte math!
