House proud
The owner, a former business executive and partner in the renowned cookie business, Tate’s Bake Shop, and his husband, a third-generation artist, have transformed this 2012 three-story home into an estate with unique furnishings, custom hand-painted floors and finishes — including hand-plastered walls — by the artist, and private resort-like grounds.
“The artwork and details seem to be a total show stopper for everybody who comes to view the home,” says Christa Kearns, who is co-listing the property with her colleague, Jeannie Curran at Corcoran.
“People who have seen it are overwhelmed by the beautiful details throughout from the coffered ceiling to the hand-painted floors and well-executed gym,” says Curran.
What’s the plan
The home is entered through a double-height grand foyer that is flanked by a formal dining room and a living room. The heart of the home is the 20 x 20 great room, anchored by a gas-fueled fireplace; and adjoining the 379-square-foot kitchen and 198-square-foot window-lined breakfast room. The second floor is devoted to four bedrooms, one of which is the 291-square-foot primary suite with a custom-built walk-in closet, dressing room and a large bathroom with double-sized shower. There is also a finished windowed office/studio loft space of nearly 1,000 square feet. The 1,351-square-foot lower level features 10-foot-high ceilings, a large gallery/media room and a gym. There is storage, a bathroom and a bonus room.

What’s cooking
Viking and Sub-Zero are part of the appliance package in the chef’s kitchen, which is equipped with two sinks and a prep pantry with a second freezer and fridge. Green marble tops the main custom cabinetry, and the center island, which includes a convenience sink, has polished butcher block and seating for four. The adjacent oversized breakfast room features a beadboard ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the grounds. A separate butler’s pantry connects the kitchen to the dining room.

What else
The three-car garage is heated and air conditioned and includes a finished loft suitable for a studio or home office, and a half bath. The seller has filed for and is in the process of obtaining an updated Certificate of Occupancy to reflect the finished basement and room above the garage.

Agent’s callout
“This is an up and coming area that’s a little pocket tucked off the Hamptons,” Kearns says. “You still have access to, but are not paying the price of the Hamptons.” Curran added a house just a five miles away would be exponentially more expensive. But in this location, she said, “You can go from east to west with a shorter commute without sacrificing amenities.”

Location, location, location
The home is .7 miles from the center of East Moriches, 7.2 miles from Westhampton and 23 miles from Southampton. The Terrell River County Park, a 263-acre preserve that offers hiking trails, beach access and panoramic ocean views, is 2.7 miles. Webby’s Beach, in the Town of Brookhaven, is 2.2 miles.
