Man, it’s been hot! Like, crazy, crazy hot, right? When the weather hits those 90 degree digits, quenchable, cold things are the order of the day.

Watermelon, in particular, often does the trick. Did you know that watermelon is 92% water? It’s a fact, according to the National Watermelon Promotion Board. And that’s not all:

  • New studies point to L-citrulline, an amino acid in watermelon, as a key component in supporting vascular health
  • The fruit contains no cholesterol, fat or sodium
  • Watermelon is rich in the antioxidant lycopene
  • It’s only 80 calories a serving
  • We grow it locally! And they’re just about ready to hit farmsteads for the season (try Pike Farms in Sagaponack!)

Of course, alcohol is not a health tonic, but our friends over at Origin Holistic Vodka (you know, our good friend Woody Harrelson and his friend and wellness maven Amy Holmwood) take pains to make it with sustainability at the forefront, as U.S.D.A. green-certified distillery that plants a tree for every bottle sold. So you know, as far as the booze biz goes, it’s not such a bad pedigree.

And this drink: It’s as refreshing as it gets this time of year. Cheers, South Forkers!
