If you’re the kind of shopper who likes to see, feel and touch an article of clothing before you buy it, you’re in luck. One of the most popular versions of the aforementioned, J. Crew, is opening up a brick-and-mortar store in the heart of Southampton, to be celebrated this weekend with a farmstand-themed fête for all.

On June 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., J. Crew Southampton (88 Main St., 631-350-4472) opens its doors with host of giveaways, gifts with purchase and special limited-run offerings.

Joining the East Hampton store, as well as the popular outlet outpost in Tanger Riverhead outlet mall, J. Crew Southampton isn’t a pop-up at all, even if they’re billing this first weekend as one; it’s permanent. And if it seems like déjà vu, you’re not far off. From 2007 to 2020, the retailer had a year-round shop in Southampton that closed, along with other J. Crew stores, in July 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. But you can’t keep a good sophisticated preppy or the unstoppable charm of a good cotton button-down, well, down.

In addition to their classic and seasonally changing line of men’s, women’s and kids’ clothes, this weekend will offer up a cache of fun extras, such as:

  • a custom J.Crew Southampton scarf designed by illustrator Julie Houts, who also was a sometime designer of J. Crew clothing
  • personalized stitching for this weekend only by @apprvl, the Brooklyn-based company founded by Megan Mussari known for it’s cool, artistic iconic embroidery using natural dyes
  • J. Crew’s classic chinos in made-to-order custom dyes with a special hand-stamped interior pocket (bespoke, to say the least — this isn’t available online at all, and currently only can be found at their Bond Street store in Manhattan)
  • a special stylish collection of books from David Zwirner, the forward-thinking international art gallery, available for purchase while supplies last

If you spend $200 or more, you get a free jar of Balsam Farms raspberry jam. And if you don’t spend anything, you can still get in on giveaways for their own Ellie G. ice cream flavor, J. Crewberry Pie, fun scratch n’ sniff fruit stickers for the kids (or you) and market bags for piling up goodies here and there.

Keep an eye out, too, for their classic VW bus beach truck, which will be making stops around the towns with more of those scratch ‘n sniff stickers for all, at Southampton beaches, the Southampton Playhouse, Lunch and Balsam Farms.

J. Crew Southampton will be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
