This first June weekend sees a bunch of Hamptons locales not only celebrating the people of the South Fork, but the incredible nature that surrounds us. In addition to all the art, music and hospitality centric activity for this weekend, Cornell Cooperative Extension has a hand in a few events this weekend set to help protect our waters and the marine life that inhabits them.

Here’s a little taste of what to do this weekend:

A smorgasbord of fun at Hamptons locales

Belt it like a boss at Almond‘s karaoke night, starting tonight at 9:30 p.m. Located at 1 Ocean Road in Bridgehampton. Sagaponack Farm Distillery (369 Sagg Road, Sagaponack, 631-537-7300) hosts musical performances from Jake Leer and Jamie Ellis from 5 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, May 30. “Season Kickoff” is the latest group art show featuring local artists at Romany Kramoris Gallery (41 Main St., 631-725-2499) in Sag Harbor. Enjoy Aperitivo sunset cocktails at the Baker House 1650 (181 Main St., East Hampton, 631-324-4081) today, tomorrow and Saturday, May 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. Additionally, on Sunday, June 1, Baker House hosts a traditional English-style afternoon tea, featuring teas from Plain T, a glass of Champagne, light bites and sweet treats from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Details are here.

Save the seahorses on Shelter Island

Join the students from Shelter Island Union Free School District and Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program to help launch the “Seahorse Hotel Project,” an experiential learning initiative focused on marine conservation, particularly the Northern Lined Seahorse, this afternoon at 3 p.m. This interactive workshop, slated to be set up at the American Legion (281 School St., across from the school), sees students designing and building seahorse hotels using repurposed aquaculture gear.

Make it to the Moby Dick Marathon in Sag Harbor

Set sail on the village-wide “Moby Dick Marathon” with Canio’s Books, starting today and continuing through Sunday. Since shuttering last year, Canio’s has a new “homebase” inside the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum (200 Main St.), where there’ll be readings from the classic tale. Readings will also occur at The Church, the John Jermain Library, Old Whalers’ Church, Christ Episocpal Church, the Breakwater Yacht Club and Eastville Community Historial Society. Tonight, Melville scholar and West Point associate professor of Englilsh Gerard McGowan will discuss Moby Dick’s relevance today at the Masonic Temple (on the second floor of the whaling museum) at 6 p.m.

See “The Crucible,” hear about preservation at LTV

South Fork Performing Arts, a Wainscott-based performing arts school for local youth, presents live performances of Arthur Miller’s classic “The Crucible” at LTV Studios (75 Industrial Road, Wainscott, 631-537-2777). Miller’s timeless tale comes to life as the cast of 20 local kids take the stage tomorrow at 7 p.m. and in two performances on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. Tickets are $25. Also at LTV, on Sunday at 4 p.m. Tara Cubie, director of Preservation Long Island, will speak on preservation myth busting. Free to attend but registration is required. Do so here.

Bring the kids to a block party at CMEE

The Children’s Museum of the East End (376 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, Bridgehampton, 631-537-8250) hosts their 8th annual Block Party this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon. Admission is free and the event will feature block building activities, community crafts, stomp rockets, chalk art and more. Collaborations will include iCamp, Fashion Camp and Little Barn. Honor Bonac b-ball legends

Celebrate Bonac’s own local b-ball legends and brothers Howard and Kenny Wood at The Clubhouse (174 Daniels Road, East Hampton, 631-537-2695) tomorrow night, May 30. Each brother led their respective high school basketball teams to state championships (Howard in 1977 and Kenny in 1989), before both going on to play in college and later, professionally. Howard went on to play at University of Tennessee, playing in the NBA with the Utah Jazz and premier leagues in Spain. Kenny played college ball at the University of Richmond, going pro in Spain and South America. Today, the brothers are being inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame. The celebration at Clubhouse is from 5 to7 p.m. where there will be complimentary small bites and great stories.

Buy beer for the bays at Kidd Squid

A Brew for the Bay release party is at Kidd Squid (11 Spring St., Sag Harbor, 631-500-0533) from 5 to 9 p.m. tomorrow night. Featuring a crips pilsner crafted by the beloved Sag Harbor-based brewery, the party is a collaborative fundraiser effort with Bay to the Bays, part of Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program. Every purchase helps to plant 100 shoots of eel grass in our bays.  Learn more about the restoration program at tomorrow’s party and pitch in by purchasing a four-pack of the pilsner along with a specially crafted hat. Take in some art in Water Mill

The opening reception for the 33rd annual Members’ Art Show and Sale is at Water Mill Museum (41 Old Mill Road, Water Mill, 631-726-4625) this Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. The non-juried show features artwork and sculpture from over 50 local artists within the museum’s gallery. Proceeds benefit the museum’s ongoing preservation efforts. Refreshments will be served. The exhibition will be on display through Sunday, June 8.

Hike through Buckskill

All are welcome to enjoy a moderate paced, 3.25-mile hike through the Hardscrabble Loop of the 700-acre Buckskill Preserve with the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet on the north side of Stephen Hands Path across from Buckskill Road, about half a mile west of the intersection of Stephen Hands Path and Route 114. Got questions? Call Dave at 917-885-5749.

Peruse pond life with SOFO

A pop-up pond workshop is at the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center (377 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, Bridgehampton, 631-537-9735) on Sunday from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Held each month and led by SOFO environmental outdoor education specialist Crystal Possehl-Oakes, the exhibit includes ongoing examination of samples of collected pond water, to identify life that’s existing via magnifiers and microscopes. Free for all ages to attend, advanced registration is required.

Become an outdoor artist for a day in Riverhead

East End Arts’ 29th annual “Mosaic” street painting festival, dubbed the most colorful day of the year, is on Sunday, June 1, from noon to 5 p.m. Downtown Riverhead, nestled along the Peconic Rivers, comes alive. Filled with people strolling along, artists will be in full action and there’ll be family-oriented activities, live music, interactive art, a drum circle, dance and theater performances, craft and artists vendors, food trucks and fine arts for sale.
