Creepy, crawly, bloody, ghoulish fun is order of the day on Halloween. And while the kids get all the candy treats, after they wash off the spooky Halloween make-up and turn in, it’s time for the grown-ups to have a little seasonal treat of their own.
This riff on a the oh-so popular Espresso Martini swaps out the standard vodka for coconut-kissed rum, which goes awfully well with a nice, concentrated cold brew. Of course, we headed straight to Sag Harbor’s own Sylvester & Co. Modern General (103 Main St. in the old whaling village, or grab a bottle at Bridgehampton’s SoulCycle at the Barn at 256 Butter Lane) for their famed Dreamy Coffee for this island-centric version of the caffeinated cocktail. Don’t skip the espresso salt (garnish, people; it’s important!) — while we wait for local purveyor Amagansett Sea Salt Co. to restock their espresso salt-and-pepper version, we’re digging Syracuse Salt Co.’s Espresso Flake Salt as a perfectly frightful substitute.
For glassware, you can use your workaday martini glass or a coupe if you have one, but we’re digging the more demure Nick and Nora glass (which will also leave you a little extra in the shaker to top off your spooky sipping shenanigans).
