One of our fave lyrics from the one and only Tay Tay (or Taylor Swift if we need to be all official) says, “August slipped away into a moment in time, ‘cause it was never mine.” And while it is an indelible truth that August is in fact slipping away, there’s no stopping the South Fork from celebrating.
For this weekend’s festivities there’s tons of live music from some serious pros, all yours for the taking. Catch a Tony-nominated cabaret singer at LTV Studios in Wainscott or hit up the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill for a world-renowned Cameroonian-American jazz vocalist. If jazz isn’t your bag, don’t miss the Hamptons’ hometown powerhouse of a songstress Nancy Atlas at the Masonic Temple in Sag Harbor or a poolside performance from the band St. Lucia at Sole East in Montauk.
If you can swing it, there are also a few really cool fundraisers happening this weekend to benefit some of the South Fork’s most beloved institutions, organizations and landmarks and don’t miss a chance to meet the wackiest costumer/fashion designer to the stars, as the legendary Bob Mackie comes to Guild Hall.
Finally, if you’re free and want to do a little good deed, meet up with the Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt on Saturday morning for a cleanup of a road in Sagaponack. Because remember, the responsibility of protecting and preserving this beautiful place we get to call home is always ours.
Whether it’s August or not.
