The South Coast Fizz is a lovely way to sip in the spring. (Photo courtesy of Malfy Gin Originale)

We try not to put baby in a corner when it comes to spirits and seasons over here at Southforker. There are plenty of cocktails that feel appropriate to the weather, time of year, holiday or just your general mood no matter what your liquor of choice may be.

But while that’s all fine and well: Doesn’t gin just feel so… springy?

It’s the botanicals, of course. Every day we’re watching the earth come alive with perennials springing from the ground and buds forming on the trees. We’re even seeing apple and cherry blossoms already. So gin? Yeah, spring puts us in the mood.

With Easter on the menu this weekend, we thought this lovely, refreshing sipper from Malfy, a lovely Italian gin made in Turin in the north but embodying the spirit of the Amalfi Coast (Pause: Let’s just close our eyes for a second and pretend were there… wasn’t that nice?), as it uses lemons from the area, as well as Sicily, in the botanical mix, along with cassia, coriander, licorice, grapefruit peel and, of course, juniper. It’s a simple blend, but an effective one aromatically.

Pick up a bottle at Park Place Wines & Spirits — and be sure to say hey to Townie, Harry, Lisa and Chris for us! Cheers to Easter weekend, friends.
