Learn to appreciate numerous
drawing media and their unique characteristics. Each class will introduce a
black media and demonstrations will present methods to explore. Pencil is the
familiar form of graphite, but it also comes in sticks and powder. Vine,
compressed, and conte are types of charcoal. Learn to control the lightest
application of vine charcoal and build up value to darkest black. The pen and
ink allows for a beautiful range of line and washes. Techniques in this
course will include drawing contour line, building value, cross-hatching, and
ink washes. Practice drawing using a range of still-life objects. And study
their basic shapes in line and value. The class will review the elements and
principles of art and exercise them through drawings. This step-by-step
drawing experience is ideal for beginners and important for experienced
students. Bring a sketchbook 9‘x12” or larger. Other materials are provided.
