Monday is Labor Day, and although summer doesn’t technically end until the third week of September, the holiday marks the closing of the season here on the East End.
And honestly, that’s okay, as the fun doesn’t fade at all. Plenty of locales are hosting special Labor Day-inspired events as the weekend draws nearer (and while we will of course miss the summertime season, we’re all about autumn). Here’s a little taste of where to celebrate the end of the season across the Hamptons:
The Barnyard (270 Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, 631-594-2862), set within the same spot where the Boardy Barn used to be, rings in Labor Day properly with Sunday Funday, a day-long celebration of the end of summer. Featuring a live DJ and cold draft beers this Sunday, Aug. 31, the first hour open will have happy hour prices. Fun starts at 2 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m. For adults age 21 and over. Armed with “the biggest tent in the Hamptons,” the event is rain or shine.
Say goodbye to summer at Gurney’s in Montauk (290 Old Montauk Highway, 631-668-2345) this weekend. Starting on Friday, Aug. 29, and continuing through Sunday, Aug. 31, the iconic Montauk mainstay will host beach bonfires for both resort guests and reservation holders from 8 to 10 p.m. Additionally, there’ll be a slew of Kids Club activities from Friday to Sunday beginning at 9 a.m., including supervised play, arts and crafts, time at the beach or indoor pool, and other guided entertainment. Dive-In movies feature family-friendly movies at the indoor seawater spa pool Friday through Sunday starting at 7:30 p.m. each night. Gurney’s Beach Club and Firepit will also host the last run of its “Sound Waves Live DJ Sets” starting on Friday. Click here for more information and to book your spot.
Close out the summer at Sí Sí Restaurant (295 Three Mile Harbor Hog Creek, East Hampton, 631-810-9023) this weekend. From noon to 6 p.m., the waterfront celebration will include live music, drink specials and killer sunset views. On Friday, Aug. 29, from 9 p.m., kick off the weekend with beats by Chris Bachmann. Saturday, Aug. 30 from noon to 6 p.m. enjoy a waterfront brunch with Dionysus featuring beats by Sasha Barbot. After, enjoy sounds by GR1FN beginning at 9 p.m. On Sunday, Aug. 31, Sí Sí hosts an All White Extravaganza featuring daytime with Cache Life (from noon to 6 p.m.) followed by sounds by Lesmosyn, Manu, Charles Slamowitz, and Eric Essebag on live guitar. Late night takeover (starting 9 p.m.) — DJ Chase Creighton keeps it going into the night.

Boutique hotel Seven Beach Lane (631-684-0777) hosts a Labor Day Weekend Family BBQ on Sunday, Aug. 31, from noon to 4 p.m. at its 7 Beach Lane location in Westhampton Beach. Join in for a fun-filled day of delicious food, games and drinks on the front lawn. Additionally, there’ll be Jenga, Connect4, Corn Hole and a bouncy house for the kids. BBQ menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, corn and salads. Get some quality time in the sun before the autumn air really sets in. Tickets are $45 and are available here. Kids under age 5 are free.
Naturally, you’re going to get hungry with all this activity. But if you just simply don’t have it in you to fire up the grill, look no further than Bridgehampton’s Art of Eating (264 Butter Lane, 6341-267-2411) to cater your “so long summer” spread. Their Lobstah Bake package serves four 1.5-pound lobsters with all the fixin’s while the Red, White and The Classic Hamptons BBQ package includes fried chicken, baby back ribs, firecracker slaw, baked beans, potato salad and more. Both are designed to feed at least four people.
Over on the North Fork…
Known for its rich history and iconic waterfront views, Claudio’s Waterfront (111 Main St., Greenport, 631-477-0267) is the perfect spot to unwind with friends and family. This season, the iconic local North Fork hotspot is offering a Tumbleweed Tuesday special, where guests and locals can enjoy $1 wings all day long (with a minimum order of six). Great for groups to gather and share delicious bites while soaking in the end-of-season sun.
