We like it when the seasons aren’t rushed.
So, we’re really digging the crips mornings, chilly evenings and warm-in-the-sun days that are happening right now. We like it even better when we have potential weekend plans that give off that same kind of easy, breezy energy…even better when there’s food.
For this weekend, there are at least three festivals and events centered around epicurean interests, each of which that also benefits for a great cause.

Tour the south end burying ground in East Hampton
Spooky season is here and we can’t think of a what better place to spend a Friday evening than in a graveyard. Join the East Hampton Historial Society and East Hampton’s own town historian Hugh King for a tour of the first burying ground established by white settlers of East Hampton in the 17th century. Learn about some of East Hampton’s most iconic figures and mysterious deaths. Beware that only street parking is available. Visitors will be expected to climb steps and navigate uneven, grassy ground so wear comfortable shoes. Meet at Home Sweet Home Museum, 14 James Lane, East Hampton. Tickets are $12.
Shell out for Shinnecock. Show that you give a shuck
The fourth annual Shinnecock Oyster Festival takes place on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Shinnecock Powwow grounds (located at 100 Montauk Highway in Southampton). There’ll be live music, myriad vendors and fun for the whole family. Admission is free, donations are greatly appreciated. For more details, click here.
Sag Saturdays return to the Harbor
Sag Saturdays, the off-season initiative organized by several businesses and organizations throughout Sag Harbor to showcase all the fun and cool stuff happening throughout the village, is this Saturday, all day long. Activities include a free open house at the John Steinbeck House, a free stop-motion workshop for kids at the Sag Harbor Cinema, Sagtoberfest is at Kidd Squid Brewing Co. in Sag Harbor (11 Spring St.) this Saturday and Sunday. Expect all-day Bavarian bites, seasonal beers, stein holding contests and live music from the likes of Klyph Black, Greg McMullen, Woody Boley, Cailyn Kratzer, Brad Penuel and Jon DiVello. Annual Chowdah Chowdown
Springs Food Pantry host its annual Chowdah Chowdown this Saturday Oct. 10, from noon to 3 p.m. Set for the patio of Springs Tavern and Grill, this all-you-can-eat chowder event showcases soup submissions over 20 local chefs. There’ll be live music by Josh Brussell, a mocktail bar and full cash bar provided the Springs Tavern, a 50/50 raffle and t-shirts for sale. Proceeds benefit Springs Food Pantry. Tickets are $50 per person. Rain date is Oct. 11.
Sag Harbor’s Sidewalk Sale
The Sidewalk Sale returns to Sag Harbor this Saturday, Oct. 10, continuing through Monday, Oct. 12. Organized by the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce, the event allows local businesses a three-day window to showcase exceptional shopping deals right on the sidewalk. Dozens of shops are participating with clearance prices, so there’s sure to be something for everyone.

Celebrate the Montauk community at Fall Fest
Montauk Chamber of Commerce and Visit Montauk’s Fall Fest returns for its 45th year this Saturday and Sunday. Expect family-friendly fun, bounce houses for the kids, pumpkins, fall festivities, farmers market vendors, live entertainment and the famed chowder contest. Set for 11 a.m to 5 p.m. both days on the Montauk Village Green.
Head out for Oktoberfest, Montauk style
Montauk’s Solè East celebrates Oktoberfest with traditional German and Bavarian food, beer steins and a live oompah band this Sunday, Oct. 11 from 3 to 9 p.m. Doubling as a fundraiser, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Montauk Food Pantry, the event is open to all. Solè East is located at 90 Second House in Montauk.
Pack in for a prime rib dinner to support Shelter Island students
The Shelter Island Lion’s Club hosts a prime rib dinner community fundraiser on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Shelter Island Heights Firehouse (2 Prospect Ave., Shelter Island). All proceeds help support the seventh and eighth grade student trip to Epcot at Disney World. Tickets are $50 for adults, $25 for kids under 12.
