Now firmly in the fall season, we here on the South Fork are ready for October and all the autumnal joy she brings. Here’s a small snippet of what’s going on this weekend as we get ready to snuggle into a brand new month.
Stay healthy in East Hampton
The East Hampton Healthcare Foundation hosts a free community health fair Friday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Luke’s Church Hoie Hall meeting room (18 James Lane, East Hampton). Highlights will include flu shots, glucose and blood pressure screenings, and applications for colorectal screenings. Also available will be appointments for no-cost mammogram and pap smear tests for uninsured women over the age of 40. Representatives and information will be on hand from health insurance organizations, Sun River Health Care, OLA of Eastern Long Island, SNAP (food stamp information and applications), mental health resources for children and adolescents (via YES COMPHS, Youth Enrichment Services Community Mental Health and Support), Meals on Wheels (information and applications), the Town of East Hampton Human Services department, and Cornell Cooperative Extension (family wellness and nutrition educator). Head to Southamptonfest
Celebrate all things fall at the 14th annual Southamptonfest, this Saturday, Oct. 3, at Agawam Park in downtown Southampton from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bring the whole family and your embrace of all-things autumnal this weekend to Southampton’s 14th annual Southamptonfest. This yearly celebration of the harvest season is a village-wide fête that brings the community together for a full day of fall fun on Saturday, Oct. 3. Held in Agawam Park at 25 Pond Lane, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is the presenting sponsor, and a portion of the proceeds from the event, and the Friday night Rotary Kickoff Party on Oct. 2, also held in Agawam Park, go to the continued restoration of the 1923 World War I memorial in the park.

Stop by SpringsFest
SpringsFest, the annual community music festival to celebrate the history and heritage of the hamlet of Springs, is on Saturday at Parsons Blacksmith Shop from 4 to 7 p.m. Held on the grounds of the Parsons Blacksmith Shop (1 Parson Place, East Hampton) the festival is hosted by Heart of Springs, a nonprofit organization purposed with celebrating, promoting and preserving both the cultural and historical significance of the hamlet’s historic district. Attendees are slated to enjoy a large craft fair, filled with local beer and wine as well as food trucks, raffles, yard games and more. Three local bands will perform: M takes the Mic, Real East End Brass, and Mamalee Rose & Paul Gene, performing at 4, 5 and 6 p.m., respectively. Other festivities will include a special history lesson from town crier Hugh King, a blacksmith demonstration and at least 15 local craft vendors showcasing their wares.
Make it to the Mashashimuet 5K
The 6th annual Friends & Family 5K is this Sunday, Oct 4., to benefit capital projects within Mashashimuet Park in Sag Harbor while also contributing to the park’s “Pay it Forward” scholarship. The start time for the race is at 8:30 a.m., rain or shine, at the park, located on the corner of Jermain Avenue and Main Street. Registration for the 5k is $28.63 in advance, $33.80 on race day. Making music at the Sag Harbor American Music Fest
And! Because of last week’s nor’easter, the Sag Harbor American Music Festival was rescheduled to this weekend, now being held at Mashashimuet Park. There’ll be three stages set up with music slated from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 P.M. both Saturday and Sunday. The festival is rain or shine and admission is free. Help out Havens Barn on Shelter Island
Lend a helping hand with the Shelter Island History Museum (16 South Ferry Road, Shelter Island) this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Havens Barn.
