A twofer of a tap show is coming to the East End in May.
Our Fabulous Variety Show — the Hamptons-based performing arts education and production nonprofit organization founded by Anita Boyer and Kasia Klimiuk back in 2010 — presents “The Tap Show,” with two performances occurring across the North and South forks.
Showcasing some of the tap dancing genre’s most classic routines, like the “Bojangles” stair dance, Shirley Temple’s “On the Good Ship Lollipop,” “Anything Goes,” and Take Five, according to a press statement from OFVS, the productions will also include new and revived routines from the organization’s students as well as local participants. And while “The Tap Show” is celebrating its 10 anniversary here on the South Fork, the performance is making its premiere on the North Fork, with a performance at Southold High School (420 Oaklawn Ave.) set for 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.
Tap dancing has been buzzing around the East End for a while now, and thanks to a grant of $19,250 from the North Fork Side by Side Foundation, the genre has hit the North Fork in full step. According to the statement, the grant has not only helped the North Fork get its first “Tap Show,” but has allowed for free tap classes to be available at a slew of NoFo locales, including the Cutchogue Library, North Fork Academy of Dance and Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on the South Shore, all in an effort to get new and veteran tap students prepared to perform in the show.
“Students from these classes will present their tap routines alongside featured performers, including the Butterfly Effect Project’s Elite Squad Step Team, the North Fork Community Theater’s cast of Anything Goes with a sneak preview performance of “Blow, Gabriel, Blow,” and dancers from the Our Fabulous Variety Show studio and competition programs,” the release says.
On May 17, OFVS will present their 10th Anniversary Tap Show at Guild Hall (158 Main St.) in East Hampton. This production will also host the Butterfly Effect Project’s Elite Squad Step Team and students from the OFVS competition team and studio programs.
Tickets for both tap performances are free or donation based at the door. To support more fabulous tap programs and to reserve seats in advance, visit ofvs.org/tickets or call 631-507-4603.
