As we prepare for the Easter holiday this Sunday, plenty of South Forkers are fully embracing the spring season, and with style, to boot!
Taking a tip from good old Mother Nature (by the way, thanks for this winter. That was cute of you.), locales from art galleries to candy stores are ringing in spring with upbeat action that truly celebrates the new season. Draw and learn about photography with your phone at SAC
Artist Linda Capello’s figure drawing workshop (working from a live model) is at Southampton Arts Center (25 Jobs Lane, 631-283-0967) this Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. $30 per person, $25 for members. Additionally, on Saturday, April 4, SAC hosts an iPhone photography workshop, specifically looking at double exposure and visual storytelling. Greet spring at Grenning Gallery
“Primavera” is the latest exhibition coming up at the Grenning Gallery (26 Main St., 631-725-8469) in Sag Harbor, featuring world-renowned artist Hunt Slonem and New York-based painter Kristy Gordon. Catch an opening reception this Saturday, April 4, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Head to Eggstravaganza in Montauk
This Saturday the Candied Anchor, the Montauk Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and the Montauk Chamber of Commerce host the 11th annual Eggstravaganza! Celebrate springtime and the Easter holiday with a classic egg hunt along with field day style races and games, plus a chance to win awesome prizes. Starts at 11 a.m. at the Montauk Green.
Super Mario takes the big screen
See an IMAX screening of “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” at Southampton Playhouse (43 Hill St., 631-339-9069)this Saturday at 10 a.m. Appropriately, a Yoshi-inspired egg hunt will follow.
Say hi to adoptable pets
Come visit the fine folks of Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, as they hang out with adoptable pets at Petco (2044 Montauk Highway Unit 24,) at The Commons in Bridgehampton this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

See what a picture is worth at The Church
“A Thousand Words: Photography at The New Yorker,” curated by Elisabeth Biondi, is the latest at The Church (48 Madison St., Sag Harbor, 631-919-5342), with a special opening reception set for this Saturday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Featuring works from Richard Avedon, Ruven Afanador, Mary Ellen Mark, Gilles Peress, Sylvia Plachy, Platon, Robert Polidori, Steve Pyke, Martin Schoeller and Max Vadukul, the exhibition celebrates 100 years of The New Yorker magazine while simultaneously highlighting images that showcase the listed individuals’ (who were the mag’s staff photographers) groundbreaking work, which changed the visual nature of the magazine.
Clean up local beaches with LIOGA
Winter has given the Peconic Estuary a serious beating. That’s why Long Island Oyster Growers Association is hosting an oyster dreg hunt and beach cleanup. If you’re interested in participating, show up between 9 and 11 a.m. on Saturday at Greenport Brewery (42155 Main Road, Peconic, 631-477-1100), Rams Head Inn (108 S Ram Island Drive, Shelter Island, 631-749-0811) or Kidd Squid (11 Spring St., Sag Harbor, 631-500-0533) to be pointed toward a beach that needs some love.
Make pastel art
Join artist Kari Kaczmarek to create finished artworks with a spring theme on commercial wet and dry sandpaper using chalk pastels at Hampton Bays Public Library (52 Ponquogue Ave., 631-728-6241) on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. $10 per person.
Hunt for eggs at Old Whalers’
Old Whalers’ Church (44 Union St., 631-7625-0894)) in Sag Harbor hosts an Easter egg hunt on its front lawn on Sunday, April 5, following their Sunday service. All are welcome!
