Happy New Year, Southforkers, and hello 2025! Historically, the first weekend of January is a relatively quiet one, as we’re all still gettin’ our groove back from the holidays. Still, there’s a good chunk of fun to be had across the Hamptons this weekend sure to help you ease on into the new year. Here’s what we’re thinking…

Learn to draw at SAC

Tomorrow, Jan. 3, marks the start of a new studio figure drawing workshop at Southampton Arts Center (25 Jobs Lane, 631-283-0967) in Southampton at 1 p.m. Led by artist Linda Capello, the workshop uses a live model and explores techniques of line, mass, gesture, proportion and foreshortening. Each student will receive personal attention and detailed instruction. Bring your own dry mediums to work with, such as soft vine charcoal, conte, graphite, kneaded erasers and large pads (at least 14-by-17 inches). $25 for non-members, $20 for SAC members. Movies, Mario Kart and more at the library in East Hampton

The East Hampton Library (159 Main St., 631-324-0222) hosts a Mario Kart tournament for young teens (in grades sixth through eighth) tomorrow afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m. Start your Nintendo engines and challenge your friends to a high-speed showdown across some of the most iconic tracks ever to be animated. Snacks will be served throughout the tournament and the top racer will snag a $25 Amazon gift card. Reserve your spot here. Also tomorrow, the library hosts a young adult project: designing watercolor postcards. From 3 to 5 p.m., high school students can pick up reserved take and make kits at the library, take them home, make the postcards, then return them a week later to the library and earn community service points necessary to graduate. Click here to reserve your kit. On Saturday, a bi-weekly knitting group meets at the library. Free to join and all skill levels are welcome, but you should reserve your spot here. Paint and play at SOFO

On Saturday, Jan. 4, head to the South Fork Natural History Museum (377 Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, 631-537-9735) in Bridgehampton for some ocean trivia beginning at 10:30 a.m. Designed for adults, teens and kids ages 10 and over, teams will be testing their knowledge on ocean life, leading to oodles of underwater discoveries and fact-finding fun. Led by SOFO environmental educator Rob “Rockfish” Gelling, the program is $15 for non-member adults, $10 for kids, members are free. Advance registration is required. On Sunday, Jan. 5, there’s a program at SOFO to make a winter-themed stained glass window ornament out of recycled materials and paint. Starts at 10:30 a.m. and is for ages 6 and older. $15 for non-member adults, $10 for non-member kids, free for members. Click here to register in advance.

Catch the tail end of two art exhibits

This weekend is the last one to see artist Derrick Adams’ “Fresh Paint” at the Parrish Art Museum (279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, 631-283-2118). The exhibition is a rotating series of single-artwork exhibitions presented by the Parrish in collaboration with the FLAG Art Foundation — a New York-based nonprofit exhibition space — fostering a direct response to contemporary issues and cultural movements. The exhibit is on view in the Creativity Lounge at the Parrish and is open to the public at no charge during regular museum hours. Last day of the exhibition is on Sunday. In Sag Harbor, Grenning Gallery’s “GEMS” also ends on Sunday. Be sure to pop by the 26 Main St. location to take in a bunch of small-scale paintings from several of the gallery’s most beloved artists from the Hamptons, the state and from around the world.

Support, sip and sing at your friendly neighborhood bar

On Saturday, be sure stop by Almond Restaurant in Bridgehampton (1 Ocean Road, 631-537-5665) for their world famous “Karaoke Saturdays” hosted by DJ Carlos Lama. The show runs from 9 p.m. ‘til about midnight. (Pssst! Don’t forget to hit up Almond’s latest Artist & Writers dinner coming at us this Tuesday, Jan. 7. Click here for details.) On Sunday, don’t miss Game Day specials at Southampton Publick House (62 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631-283-2800) starting at 11:30 a.m. Catch all the action at the locale’s two bars sporting 21 flatscreen TVs. Yuengling pints will be available for $6 with orders of chicken wings up for $8. Deal lasts all day (‘til around 10 p.m.). Have fun, but please drink responsibly! We don’t want you starting off your new year on the wrong foot.
