There’s something about spooky season that gets people more twitterpated than the first sign of spring. Here on the South Fork it’s no different as the autumn season advances into October. For this weekend, there are a slew of festively themed activities in nearly every hamlet. So, gas up on your pumpkin-spiced whatever drink and get ready to get down and celebrate all the fun-filled times the fall season brings.

Clean up local litter, swap clothes in Hampton Bays
Go for a walk, for a purpose, with the Hampton Bays Library this morning beginning at 10 a.m. Led by librarian Sara, participants will go on a local walk while picking up litter found along the way. Garbage bags, rubber gloves and trash pickers will be provided. On Saturday, Oct. 5, the library hosts its first clothing swap from 1 to 3 p.m. This is a great opportunity for locals to trade unwanted clothes and accessories for “new” ones. Each person may bring up to 12 items of clothing that are clean and in good shape.
Enjoy a concert and film at Guild Hall
Local favorite Student Body performs in concert at East Hampton’s Guild Hall tomorrow, Oct. 4, beginning at 7 p.m. Additionally, the show will also pay homage to the spirit of rock n’ roll along with the spirit of community with a special screening of Sirad Balducci’s lyrical film The Passing. Think pink, walk Riverhead
The American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Eastern Long Island three- mile walk is this Saturday at Grangabel Park on Main Street and Peconic Avenue in Riverhead. Now in its 12th year, the walk begins at 10 a.m., with registration beginning at 9 and is free to participate in.
Join in for the annual Black Film Festival
The 5th Annual Black Film Festival Short Series is at Bay Street Theater this Sunday, Oct. 6, beginning at 3 p.m. in Sag Harbor. Presented by the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center (aka The Center) as well as Black Public Media, JoLa Films, Suffolk County Office of Minorities and the Witness Project, the festival will include four short film screenings highlighting the work, experiences and voices of black filmmakers, with a brief discussion after each one. Welcoming remarks will be from The Center’s executive director and local trailblazer Bonnie Cannon. Festival will run until 6:30 p.m. but there’ll be a break for refreshments in between. Walk and fundraise for ARF
The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) Annual Stroll to the Sea Dog Walk is on Sunday, Oct. 6, starting at Mulford Farm, located at 10 James Lane in East Hampton. From 9 a.m. to noon participants, both human and canine, are welcome to join in for a two-mile walk to the ocean and back in an effort to help the 50-year-old ARF raise funds to keep saving animals. All registrants will receive a free event T-shirt with original artwork by designer and event emcee Isaac Mizrahi, a tote bag and refreshments from Dreessen’s Famous Donuts, Goldberg’s Bagels, Milk Pail apples and cider and Starbucks coffee, dog treats and water. Check out a free health fair in East Hampton
The East Hampton Healthcare Foundation will sponsor a free community health fair tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Luke’s Church Hoie Hall meeting room, located at 18 James Lane in East Hampton. This is a great opportunity to get your flu shots, blood pressure screenings, applications for colorectal screenings and HIV and Hepatitis C testing. There’s also appointments and applications available for no-cost mammogram and pap smear tests for uninsured women over the age of 40. If you’re curious about obtaining health insurance, there will also be representatives from Sun River Health Care, OLA of Eastern Long Island, Cornell (Nutrition Educator) and the Town of East Hampton Human Services department. Fun for the whole family at SouthamptonFest
The 12th annual SouthamptonFest kicks off tomorrow night with a cocktail party hosted by the Southampton Rotary. Set to be inside the Southampton Cultural Center from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., there’ll be light bites, specialty drinks and music from Damaged Goods as well as DJ and emcee Paul Cassella. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 at the door. Open bar from 6:30 to 8 p.m., cash bar afterward until 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, the festival continues throughout the village. Highlights will include the Southampton Inn hosting pumpkin carving and painting, firepits and s’mores, wine, beer and apple cider from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday will also see live music at Agawam Park, along with a chowder contest, food trucks, Shinnecock Nation Dance Troupe, giveaways, scavenger hunts, outdoor games, hay rides, and much more. Take in an artist reception in Water Mill
The Water Mill Museum hosts an opening reception for Southampton resident Marilyn Stevenson’s solo exhibit “Then and Now” this Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. A student of art and photography, Stevenson has participated in 18 solo exhibits and over 80 group shows throughout the United States and she currently curates local exhibitions annually for East Ed Photographers Group and Southampton Artists Association throughout the Hamptons. The exhibition in Water Mill will be up through Oct. 13. Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Party at Pumpkin Fest in Manorville
Join in for a Pumpkin Festival this Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at Manorville’s Cassidy Hill Farm, located at 30 North St. Activities will include pumpkin carvings, games, food trucks, face painting, a bounce house and farm animals. Pumpkin spice ice cream and apple cider donuts will be available. Vendors will include Jack’s Sweet Melts, Lotus Handmade Jewelry and Cochinita Porky Food Truck. Get one pumpkin free with your entry. Design a fall-themed decoration on Shelter Island
Shelter Island’s Rams Head Inn hosts a “Create Your Own Succulent Pumpkin Arrangement” this Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Led by Imaginariums by Elissa for a fun and inspiring workshop to create pretty fall-themed designs using succulents, preserved florals and moss. $55 to participate and you’ll get a complimentary mimosa, so yay!
