A summer tradition returns this week as the Pridwin Hotel on Shelter Island brings back its weekly Wednesday evening summer cookouts.
Each Wednesday from July 6 to August 31, the Pridwin cooks up a delicious all-you-can-eat cookout menu on its expansive front lawn as the sun sets over the Peconic Bay.
This 50-year old Shelter Island tradition is more popular than ever and shows no sign of waning.
“During the summer we bring in over 500 people for the Wednesday night cookouts,” reservation specialist Elizabeth Murphy said. “It’s a crazy, busy day and we all love it.”
This year’s menu will once again include steamed clams and mussels, grilled tuna and chicken, spare ribs and Kobe beef ribs, plus hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and a variety of salads and desserts. Lemonade, draught beer, iced tea and coffee are also included.
Tickets for adults are $39 this year, children ages 3 to 13 eat for $18 and children under 3 are free.
The cookout runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with live music from 8 to 11:30 p.m.
Customers can come by land or by sea (dock space is available on a first come, first served basis).
Reservations can be made in advance by calling (631) 749-0476. Walk-ins will be accepted, but reservations are encouraged for an accurate head count.
The hotel will also host an Independence Day cookout in conjunction with the Shelter Island Fireworks Show Saturday, July 9.
“We won’t have live music, but a more expansive menu,” Murphy said of the July 9 cookout. “We’ve added a few more menu items like filet mignon, as well as tap beer and wine.”
The special holiday cookout also starts at 6 p.m. and a reservation is required that evening.
