From haunted houses to real ghost stories to spooky hayrides, there are plenty of Halloween activities on the North Fork this month to put a chill in the air and keep you up at night. Here’s a rundown of the Halloween fun:

If you’re looking for a good old-fashioned haunted house, check out Darkside Haunted House and Village in Wading River. At over 14,000 square feet and 30 scary scenes inside and out, this Halloween attraction is a popular crowd-pleaser. Admission to the haunted house and haunted village is $23 per person. Show hours during the week are 7 to 11 p.m. Friday hours are 7 p.m. to midnight and Saturday hours are 6 p.m. to midnight. Sunday hours are 6 to 10 p.m. This attraction is NOT recommended for children under 12 years of age and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.  On Saturdays and Sundays there is a daytime matinee from 1 to 5 p.m. that offers a tamer, more family-friendly show for the little ones with the lights on and no actors for $10. For a night of outdoor fun, visit Harbes Family Orchard in Riverhead. Their corn maze has gone over to the dark side, turning into a spooky nighttime maze. Visitors are invited to bring flashlights for a night of thrills. The Harbes Spooky Night Maze is open every Saturday and Sunday from now until Nov. 1 from 7-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $13.95 per person. Want to visit to a spooky farm? On Friday, Oct. 30, Halloween Eve, you can check out the 250-year-old Hallockville Museum Farm for its Haunted Museum Tour. Storytellers will take visitors on a spooky ride full of stories like the tale of the phantom officer and the spectral bride. Many of these stories are based on historical fact, local folklore or urban legends. Hallockville’s storytellers will keep visitors on the edge of their seats as these fables are brought to haunting life by professional actors. The 50-minute guided tour will depart from the Hudson-Sydlowski house. Admission is $7 per person; children under 10 are free. Tours begin at 4:30 p.m. and the last tour leaves at 7:45 p.m. Hallockville is located at 6038 Sound Avenue in Riverhead. Advance tickets are suggested and can be bought online at hallockville.com.

Celebrate Halloween at the Long Island Aquarium with their first ever Masquerade Ball. Come dressed in your favorite costume and don’t forget a mask. (There will be masks available for last minute purchase). The event will include open bar, a DJ and dancing. There will be hors d’oeuvres served as well as light buffet stations. The Long Island Aquarium Masquerade Ball will take place on Friday October 30 from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $49.95 per person (only ages 21 and over please). On Saturday, Oct. 31, visit the Southold Historical Society for its first-ever Pumpkin Patch display. Everyone is invited to bring their carved jack-o-lanterns to the complex between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Volunteers will help display the jack-o-lanterns on the front lawn and light them with LED battery-powered candles. It’s a chance for everyone to show off their best pumpkin-carving skills. Plus, there will be trick-or-treaters in costume and hot cider will be served. The event is free, but donations are welcome. The pumpkins will remain on display throughout the weekend. The Southold Historical Society is located at 55200 Main Road in Southold. For more information, go to southoldhistoricalsociety.org.

The Edgar Allan Poe Festival returns to downtown Riverhead for more scary fun the weekend of Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 1. Begin with a Halloween lamppost decorating contest that is open to all local businesses, residents and organizations. Go to riverheadbid.com to download an application for a lamppost. Festivities kick off each evening at 6 p.m. with a masquerade party, live music and games with prizes. The event is free; visit riverheadbid.com for more information on each day’s events.

On Saturday, Oct. 31, dance the night away for a good cause at Spirit’s Promise Horse Rescue 70’s Monster Bash. Put on your bell-bottoms or come in costume to dance from 7 to 11 p.m. as a live DJ provides music. Tickets are $25 per person in advance and $30 at the door. All proceeds go to Spirit’s Promise Horse Rescue Program. The dance party will take place at Spirit’s Promise Horse Rescue, located at 2746 Sound Avenue in Riverhead. Celebrate Halloween at Greenport Harbor Brewing Company in Peconic. On Saturday October 31 the brewery will throw their 2nd Annual Greenport Horror Brewery Party. There will be a DJ, dancing, plus prizes for best costume. Their “Haunted” food truck will also be there serving up goodies. The party runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (ages 21 and up). There’s no admission fee, just come for a great time and enjoy good food, dancing and of course great beer!  Greenport Harbor Brewing Company is located at 42155 Main Road in Peconic. On Saturday, Oct. 31, history and ghosts converge at Sylvester Manor Educational Farm for Mysteries of the Manor. This nearly 400-year-old Shelter Island manor-turned-farm has more than its share of ghost stories. On Halloween, the manor will open its doors and tell those stories to visitors who take a historic house tour. Along with fascinating information about the manor’s history, guides will weave in ghost stories that have been witnessed over the years by residents and employees. Visitors can also jump aboard the manor’s haunted hayride that will traverse the estate, making stops at several locations, including a cemetary and haunted woods, while guides will tell spooky tales about the property. There will also be a costume parade,  pirate treasure hunt, snacks and warm cider. Tickets are $5 per person; children four and under are free. House tours require advance reservations. The event is free for Sylvester Manor members. Sylvester Manor Educational Farm is located at 80 North Ferry Road on Shelter Island.
