The beauty of Shelter Island is the backdrop for the 36th Annual Shelter Island 10K Race taking place on Saturday, June 20.
Once again designer and Shelter Island resident Jonathan Adler is putting his mark on the event by designing the official t-shirt for the race. The nautically inspired blue shirt will be given to race participants and sold to raise money for the race’s main beneficiary, the Shelter Island 10K Community Fund, as well as other various charities.
Jonathan Adler is a potter, designer and author. After launching his first ceramic collection in 1993, he later expanded into home furnishings and accessories, opening his first boutique in Manhattan in 1998. Jonathan Adler Enterprises is now a multi-million dollar design brand empire, that includes 26 stores worldwide.
Adler is also an author, having written several books on interior design including “My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living” and “100 Ways to Happy Chic Your Life”.
Adler’s design talents go way beyond home interiors. In 2004 he redesigned the Parker Palm Springs hotel. In 2009 Mattel asked him to design the modern glam interiors of the “real” Barbie Dream House for Barbie’s 50th anniversary. In 2010 he designed the Starbucks (RED) card and mug to benefit the Global Fund, which is working to eradicate AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria worldwide.
Adler is also a gold level sponsor of Shelter Island’s annual race. The event has been called one of the country’s most beautiful runs by Runner’s World Magazine. The island’s water views and pre-sunset ( 5:30 p.m.) start makes this event one of the most scenic of the summer season.
Pre-registration is strongly recommended as the race is limited to only 2,500 participants. Runners can sign up at www.shelterislandrun.com.
Shelter Island is accessible by ferry from either Greenport or Sag Harbor. Free shuttle service from both ferries will be provided by Hampton Jitney on the day of the event, to and from the race. For more information call (631) 774-9499 or visit www.shelterislandrun.com.
