the hampton classic horse show

In a class all its own in the minds of spectators and horse people alike, the Hampton Classic one of the largest and most anticipated horse shows in the United States. Starting this Sunday August 25 and running through Sunday September 1, it’s reason number 2 (there aren’t very many) to leave the North Fork for a spell on the South Fork.

Each year thousands descend on Bridgehampton for The Classic, which has become equally famous for its competitions as it has for its hat-donning celebrities.

Besides all the hats, the show features some of the top jumper riders from around the world competing for some of the richest equestrian prize money around.

This is no shortage of spirited competition in the Hunter Divisions. In the four classic grass rings you will find all skill levels competing, from the smallest of ponies to the most seasoned professional riders.

Perhaps the fiercest of all the competition, the infamous Hampton Classic Leadline, will take place opening Sunday at the Grand Prix Ring. The round features dozens upon dozens of ponies parade their riders, judged by Olympic Silver medalist Joe Fargis.

In between the competitions guests can shop and dine at the upscale Boutique Garden that features dozens of vendors and a wide selection of menu options, all on its 60-acre show grounds.

The Hampton Classic begins Sunday, Aug. 25 at 240 Snake Hollow Road in Bridgehampton. The weeklong Classic ends Sunday, Sept. 1.

Admission is $10 per person per day or $20 for a carload.  Children under 6 are free, and seniors are free Tuesday though Thursday.

Reserved Seats for Grand Prix Sunday are $25 per person for bench seats in the Grandstands (in addition to $10 person or $20 per carload admission}. Or $35 per person for premium center-section Grandstand seating. Parking for the show is free.
